  4. This README file lists information about the WordPerfect Shared
  5. Applications for Windows that has not yet been documented in the
  6. WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows User's Guide.

  16. CONVERSION PREFERENCES
  17. ======================
  18. The settings in the Conversion Preferences dialog box apply to
  19. all word processor file formats with the exception of Ami Pro,
  20. ASCII, and Navy DIF.  The information under Convert Preferences
  21. in the WPWin 6.1 User's Guide incorrectly states that these
  22. settings affect WP 4.2, DCA, and DisplayWrite documents only.  To
  23. view the Conversion Preferences dialog box, choose Preferences
  24. from the Edit menu, double-click Convert, then choose Document
  25. from the Options pop-up list.

  27. WORDPERFECT CHARACTERS IN QUICKFINDER
  28. =====================================
  29. QuickFinder supports the following WordPerfect characters:
  30.

  42. QUICKFINDER FILE INDEXER PERFORMANCE
  43. ====================================
  44. To speed up the generation of large QuickFinder indexes, run
  45. Windows in 386 Enhanced Mode with a swap file.
  46.  
  47. You may receive out of memory errors when attempting to generate
  48. an index on a computer using EMM386.EXE to allocate expanded
  49. memory.  In order for QuickFinder to generate the index
  50. correctly, you need to remove the line from your CONFIG.SYS file
  51. that loads EMM386.EXE, or use EMM386.EXE with the NOEMS switch,
  52. which disables the use of expanded memory.  See your DOS manual
  53. or Windows manual for information about editing your CONFIG.SYS
  54. file and configuring EMM386.EXE.
  55.  
  56. USING SPELL CHECKER WITH WPWIN 6.1 AND WPWIN 6.0
  57. ================================================
  58. Please note the following items if you have both WPWin 6.1 and
  59. WPWin 6.0/6.0a installed on your computer, or if you exchange
  60. documents between the two versions.
  61.  
  62. Supplementary Dictionaries
  63. --------------------------
  64. When you install WPWin 6.1, the setup program will make backup
  65. copies of any supplementary dictionaries listed in the
  66. Supplementary Dictionaries dialog box in the Spell Checker.  The
  67. setup program will also convert the original (6.0/6.0a)
  68. supplementary dictionaries to the new 6.1 format.  The backup
  69. copies are indicated by the file extension ".!UP" instead of the
  70. usual ".SUP" extension.  Backup copies of version 6.0/6.0a
  71. supplementary dictionaries will still be used with version
  72. 6.0/6.0a, and the new supplementary dictionaries will be used
  73. only with version 6.1.  Words you add to a supplementary
  74. dictionary while spell-checking in either version of WPWin are
  75. added only to the dictionary used by that version.

  77. Document Dictionaries
  78. ---------------------
  79. A document dictionary in a WPWin 6.0/6.0a document is converted
  80. to 6.1 format the first time you spell-check the document in
  81. WPWin 6.1.  The version 6.0/6.0a document dictionary remains in
  82. the document and will be used when the document is spell-checked
  83. in WPWin 6.0/6.0a.  The 6.1 version of the document dictionary is
  84. used only by the version 6.1 Spell Checker.  Words you add to a
  85. document dictionary while spell-checking in either version of
  86. WPWin are added only to the dictionary used by that version.

  88. Note to System Administrators About the .BIF File
  89. -------------------------------------------------
  90. When you edit the .BIF file, you can distinguish the version
  91. 6.0/6.0a Speller settings from the version 6.1 Spell Checker
  92. settings by the Item name in the US (or other language) section
  93. of the WPSpeller group as follows:
